San Diego’s Timken Museum of art is always free. The museum can be viewed in an hour but is still definitely worth visiting. It houses the world-class Putnam Foundation Collection, a worthy collection of American paintings, European master paintings and Russian Icons. The masterworks include work from, Bierstadt, Pieter Bruegel, Copley, Eastman Johnson, Fragonard, the Elder, John Singelton, Rembrandt and Rubens.
Don’t forget to pick up Timken’s family guide which turns the museum visit into a scavenger hunt, and makes for an easy introduction of fine art for youth.
